I reeeeeally didn't want to buy another pram for Miss Holly
(because I'm a cheap skate and would rather spend my money on shoes that I will never wear)
but after my mother made a few snide comments
about someone with 5 kids not having a flash poncy pram -
"Heavens, what will people think?!"
(People? What people?)
I had to admit that after nearly 3 years of hauling Jazz and Jordy and lots of beach bashing, our 3 wheel/ toddler seat combo (which only cost $99) may have seen better days and needed an upgrade.
Apparently, after stalking some 'real' mothers, she had her eye on the latest IT pram - the Stokke Xplory - a bargain at $1529.95.
Dream on, Grandma.

This is what I wanted, mostly just because I like the colour.
Because I'm practical like that.
Because I'm practical like that.
The Steelcraft Strider Plus Combo with toddler seat and baby capsule for the car.
Side note - we had to get a new capsule after we LENT our other one to a friend who then SOLD it.
Seriously, who does that?????
The cheapest price I could find for the whole lot was $891.94 not including shipping.
Which in pram prices
(if you're not a parent - google it - you'll have a heart attack)
wasn't bad
but I just couldn't spend THAT much money on more baby crap.
So after wasting more time on facebook checking out Ebay
I thought 'stuff it' and hit the Target Baby Sale.
The store was full of parents trying to figure how to fold and unfold all the damn prams.
I thought about the Cruiser with the detachable seat thingy but figured that would just annoy me
(okay, I admit it - I couldn't open the bloody thing)
so instead I picked out all this stuff.

Orbit stroller with handle that goes both ways, that the capsule can fit into for days that I only have the baby, double layback stroller when 2 kids need transporting and a bunch of wraps and fleecy blankets that match everything.
Good enough.
If I ever get if off layby.
If I ever get if off layby.
So be honest...how much did you spend on a pram? Was it worth it?
Or better yet - anyone got a blue Strider pram they're trying to get rid of????

I went through a few double strollers until I bought the Phil & Ted. I loved it. I probably loved it more because I hated all the others. Nothing makes me a crazy as a stroller too wide to go through a checkout. I think the Phil & Ted is about $500.
I went through a couple of crappy prams and then bought a second hand mountain buggy, which was a dream. Had a phil and teds when both boys needed to be held in and that was also awesome.
Phil and Ted explorer - best ever!! Fits through doorways and in clothes shops ;) I did my research and got mine $695 from pram warehouse
Quality over quantity is always best
We live in Canada. Our stroller is the "britax b-ready"
http://www.britax.ca/strollers/b-ready
& cost us $545 for the stroller & $289 for the car seat. A whopping $834, but it was gifted to us by family (our moms, sisters, aunts & cousins all chipped in)
We chose this stroller for its maneuverability, safety ratings for the car seat & storage space. I love the stroller & with #2 on the way (they'll be 18 months apart) the second caraway attachment & second seat will be $79 & $129 added :s before taxes!! .. $218.50 = $1052.50 total for two babies! Pheew that's a lot of cash!
.,.
Also I have my eye in the "baby jogger- city select mini double" stroller http://www.babyjogger.com/city_mini_dbl_dtl.aspx
Which ranges from $325 (used)- $500 (cheaper now that it's last years model) I like this one bacause both seats retract to allow sleeping, both kiddies can see, maneuverability (still fits through the shipping centre door) the sun shade is large & fully covers child and it's compact & fairly lite weight.
I find strollers to be mommy porn. Everone wants the really easy to use, lite weight one with lots of gadgets. Personally, I don't think you can put a price on ease of leaving the home (especially with 2 little ones) wether its to the grocery store or theme park. I think the stroller is THE most important piece of baby equipment! Baby rides in it (no carrying the little one) sleeps in it, plays in it, it cartus all the stuff you need to go out, & let's face it every other mother is judging you based on your pram!
As a fellow mummy of 5 do you also find that you have had to buy more for your last bub than the others? I have found that alot of baby stuff only seems to last 4 kids..not 5!!
We bought a &99 pram with toddler seat from toys r us when our 3rd bub was born, previous to that I had a $300 3 wheeler that tipped over constantly so i never used it.
I was given a pram with my first born. My 2nd, I decided to buy a new one. Went to Targets baby bumpathon sale and got a 3 wheeled pram for half price. $99. Glad I didnt spend more then that. It barely got used. It still looks brand new.
Nothing special, but it does have cupholders!
I refuse to spend lots of money on a pram that I know wont get used much or just because it looks good. Id rather save the money and buy diapers! Or shoes...
I have a purple Stokke Xplory with skateboard for my little mate (that I imported from the US for way less than RRP here ;)). I adore it. It is my dream pram and I just love it to death.
For some perspective though, I've also owned a Bertini Shuttle, Valco Runabout, City Elite, Phil & Ted's, Quinny Zapp, Joolz Bloom, Baby Jogger City Select and Peg Uno.
Prams are my thing like shoes are yours. I've not bought myself new shoes in probably two years but I have owned some damn fine prams :)
Our first pram we got second hand for about $99 (it was 10 years ago I can't remember the exact price). We bought an umbrella stroller for about $20 and another pram for around $50 when the first pram was too big & the boys had grown out of it. That was second hand too... Now my kids are out of prams, and I'm so glad of that!
Three years ago I purchased a Phil & Teds Vibe (and all the accessories)great pram, easy to push even with two munchkins....I did look around at the cheaper prams but felt the handles were to low (it would be a good excuse to get a weekly back massage) anyway my husbands work tools took a bite out of one tyre the other week, replacements can only be purchased on line...I couldn't wait as new bub needed a pram NOW, ended up buying a Peg-Perego Skate in Green (only cause it looks HOT!)
We have gone through I think 6 prams now...matter of trial and error..settled on a double and single mountain buggy, and a peg perego umbrella. All bought off ebay at a super cheap price.. I did also buy the steelcraft travel system while bub was little and sold it on ebay for just as much as I bought it for 6 months earlier..I'm lucky if I get my kids to sit in prams so they mainly just sit in the garage...
I know bugger all about prams these days, I want to know what kind of car/bus you must have to transport everyone around?
5+ years ago I went mad trying to get the one thing that worked for every occasion. I decided to just give in and realise it was impossible. I got a Mclaren stroller, still going strong today as my shopping centre pram.
Then we moved to a no footpath suburb and I got a bargain price on a purple (cause nobody else wanted it) Mountain Buggy for walking and for trains. It is my one true love and gets sooo many comments on the colour. When I needed a double I picked up a double MB on ebay and it has been a gem.
I have had a couple different travel on planes prams including a quicksmart. The Mutsy spider is the winner, it is bulkier but has a great travel cover and takes a 20kg tantruming toddler when required.
My Hubs thinks I am a pramaholic but you need the best thing for the job and all of them together were less than the stoky!! Bargain. ;)
I wanted the Bugaboo but the man said no, not even the cheaper one, so we brought a strider steel-craft.
Wish I had brought it for number 1 because it is so good.
How rude for someone to sell your capsule!
Target prams are pretty good too, that side by side looks great.
I have to say that we have had many prams over the years. Our current one, the double Mountain Buggy has been the best (I got it second hand). However, the handle snapped the other day and now I have twin three year olds and no pram. I sure am not getting another but it would have been handy if it had have lasted another year huh? x
I can't believe your friend sold something you loaned her?! That's just bizarre!
Best pram I ever bought was a red fold-up stroller from Babylove. A simple lay-back stroller is all you ever really need past six months. It is still going after seven years and it cost me under $100. The same cannot be said for the Phil & Ted. x
To me that Stokke Xplory doesn't even look like a pram. It's a handle on wheels with a fancy seat attachment that doesn't look at all comfortable for the baby.
